CCE Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Team

Team Mission The mission of the CCE Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Team is to assist the CCE system in meeting local, statewide, and national diversity goals related to: workforce diversity, diversification of audiences and program delivery, and full and influential participation of diverse constituents. We do this through developing and/or accessing professional development opportunities that promote greater understanding of differences and increase diversity management skills in support of current CCE diversity initiatives.

Values The work of the CCE Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Team is guided by the following shared values and beliefs of our members:

  • Diversity initiatives are key to the future success of CCE in carrying out its mission.
  • CCE has an important leadership role modeling equitable practices throughout the organization to help New York communities move toward pluralism.
  • All individuals have the right to mutual respect and acceptance by others without biases based on differences of any kind.
  • Full and meaningful participation of diverse persons among our current and potential staff, volunteers, stakeholders and participants is essential.
  • Efforts to promote respect, dignity, fairness, equality, and self-esteem and equitable treatment are needed in order to eliminate discrimination in all its forms at all organizational levels, throughout all programs.
  • Increased self-awareness, understanding of self, and continuous growth are key building blocks for diversity initiatives.

Vision The vision of the CCE Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Team is to be a valued, essential resource to the CCE system in supporting and sustaining efforts that establish the system as a productive, effective, and relevant organization serving as a role model for a pluralistic society. It is our aim to assist CCE in becoming an employer of choice that offers essential programs for diverse constituents through genuine partnerships.

Methods A variety of strategies will be used to address the likely broad range of professional development needs that emerge.

  • Serving as a resource to CCE ad hoc diversity-related implementation teams through direct membership or consultation (such as the current “Welcoming Environments” pilot program team).
  • Actively networking with diversity-related groups on campus and elsewhere to identify common interests and available resources.
  • Monitoring and communicating professional development resources and opportunities through maintenance of a current website and occasional system announcements and communications.
  • Identifying and recommending external professional development opportunities for funding support by Extension Administration. (Current examples are “Opening Doors” and the apprenticeship program of the NYS Migrant Program.)
  • Initiating targeted professional development opportunities in support of CCE initiatives.

Membership The team is an “affinity group” formed under advisement of the CCE Diversity Specialist and numbering about 12 persons from on and off campus within CCE and among our collaborators. Current members include:
