Working in Partnership-What it Looks Like An alternative world view---a way of being in the world that is based on relationships of mutuality and trust. Power is understood as something to be shared; it includes responsibility and accountability to those with and without power. Decisions are arrived at through a process of participation and consensus building. Difference is acknowledged, valued, and considered when solving problems, creating programs, managing a work force, or creating policy. There is a focus on linking, interdependency, cooperation, working in teams, full participation, and sharing. Communication skills are taken to a higher level including real listening, openness, empathy, assertiveness, and personal /interpersonal awareness. Skill competencies include coaching, mentoring, motivating, cultivating creativity and inspiration, conflict management, and negotiating common ground. There is a vision for working in partnership ..how power is shared, how meetings are run, how decisions are made, or how the work climate supports all employees.
